From Childhood Dreams to Wearable Art

From Childhood Dreams to Wearable Art

Growing up with my grandma, I didn't have many choices when it came to crayons, colored pencils, or drawing books. But I found my canvas anyway. I was the one responsible for tearing out the pages of the everyday calendar, and on the blank backs, I'd draw—Cinderella in her gown, pretty dresses with all their details. I've always loved detail. I remember detail. I live for it.

That's why touching embroidered textiles feels like coming home. Running my fingers over carved cupboards, tracing the lines in old marble—it's all connected to that same love of intricate, handmade beauty.

This latest drawing is inspired by a Japanese hand-drawn Meiji vase I found years ago in a charity shop. I couldn't stop looking at it. I added chrysanthemums to the design. This is just a sketch on paper—the real design on the jacket is coming in the week ahead, ushering in the new year 2026. New plans, better hope.

And in a way, I get to fulfill that little girl's dream—the one drawing on calendar pages. I can actually create it, bring it to life, and wear it.

The oriental bomber jacket. With a twist.
