Haunted: Natural Light, Tactile Scales & Floor Dynamics (Stage VI)
Share
In Stage VI of Haunted, the canvas moves to the floor. Changing positions from a standing easel to the ground completely shifts the physical dynamic—allowing the palette knife to sweep, dab, and scratch curves with a different weight and flow.
Using a textured plastic sheet dipped in diluted black acrylic, I dab raw paint directly onto the sculpted high-relief surfaces. The thin pigment settles into the grooves, instantly revealing reptile-like scale textures and organic cellular patterns.
Working by natural light near the window is essential during this stage. The directional outdoor light catches every raised edge, highlight, and contour, bringing the eye texture to life in real time.
Part of this process is knowing when to step back. I let the wet acrylic dry, step away, and re-examine the canvas from a distance to evaluate the depth before adding the next layer.
